Today I met with my friend, Claude, and we had a picnic lunch, of sorts. It wasn’t a traditional picnic in the park on a red checkered tablecloth, but it was outside and it was a park – technically. Well, OK. It was a little piece of grass on the side of the street that had a bench were we could sit.

He brought turkey wraps that he bought at the grocery store and I brought potato salad and two cold drinks. The potato salad was from scratch, because I had made some extra potatoes a couple of days ago. So I chopped up the leftover potatoes, added some mayonnaise and a little squeeze of mustard. Then I tossed in a small handful of chopped onions, green peppers and celery.

My mom used to chop up pickles and put them in her potato salad, but some people don’t like pickles and I didn’t know what Claude likes or doesn’t like. So, I played it safe and left them out. Turns out that the does like pickles, though. So next time I’ll add the pickles.

So, with that said, I have to admit that I’ve never eaten a turkey wrap before. It just never occurs to me to buy that when I’m in the grocery store. But I’m glad he brought them and let me try them, because I do like them and they seem to be pretty easy to make.

I have almost got my garden ready for planting. It is a lot of work, but I enjoy it especially when the weather is as delightful as it has been around here for the last few weeks. I’ve been raking, weeding and tilling as well as adding more rocks around the border of it. I love how it looks with all of the rocks all around it as a natural border option. I’m just having a difficult time trying to decide what I really want to plant this year. Last year all the deer really did some damage on a lot of my plantings and I got really discouraged, but this year I am putting up a wire fence around it and hopefully that will help the situation with not only the dear but all of the other critters that enjoy munching away each year in my gardens.

For dessert, I made a lemon meringue pie. The hard part was finding the beaters for my hand mixer. It looks wonderful, but we have to wait for it to cool before cutting into it. Can’t wait!

I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!

Our plans include a short visit with family Christmas morning and then an afternoon at home cooking a nice Christmas dinner and baking some cookies. I have been baking cookies every few days for the past couple of weeks and they never last more than one night! So my vision of having a big plates of assorted cookies on Christmas is just not going to happen. But I will have some kind of cookies on a plate tonight – and then I will have to stop baking for a couple of months while we all go on diets to lose these extra 10 pounds we have gained since Thanksgiving!

My mother just emailed me asking me to turn in all of the Campbell Soup labels that I have been collecting since school let out last summer. My little sister is not doing very well in English and my mother just found out the her English teacher is offering extra credit to her students in trade for these money making soup labels. And since I will be making an appearance on Christmas day I might as well bring along the baggie that is overflowing with these soup cans that I use a lot of,

Schools are really hurting for money as well as most of the other important businesses these days, so I have no problem saving these labels and doing my part in helping in the many fundraising opportunities that they school have to offer. And if my little sister can get some extra credit for my effort, I’m all for it!

I just wish that they offered Pepsi products, but alas they are faithful to the Coca-Cola company and I prefer Pepsi, oh well we can’t have everything brought right to our door step no can we.

I saw plastic bags of green grapes and decided that grapes would make a nice snack. So I didn’t stop to examine the bags of grapes or pay much attention to the display.

It wasn’t until I got home and washed the grapes that I realized they are not seedless. I didn’t even know that they still sold grapes with seeds in them. That is not what I wanted, but I guess it is my own fault for being in a hurry.
