Domestic Violence

I got up way early this morning, my hips were hurting me and I just couldn’t get comfortable. Since Comcast took all but 8 channels away from us unless we buy one of their new digital boxes there isn’t much on in the morning except for news programs. I can’t stand watching this news any more, especially in the morning. There is way too much depressing news on, not a good way to start the day.

The only thing that I could find one other than news was Jerry Springer, which I never, ever watch. My nephew was on the Jerry Springer show a few years back and informed us on just how much it is all just a bunch on nonsense so I really don’t see the point of watching it knowing it is all fake. Besides being fake, it is all about people fighting with each other which really jerks my chain. How can they promote all of this physical violence and not expect the general public to act the same way and think that they will get away with it. In the real world when you assault someone you go to jail!

Day 9

Today is day number nine of being smoke free. It hasn’t been too awfully bad so far. I’ve been told that the first 3 weeks are the worst so I have a ways to go, but it’s looking good at this point. Been chewing a lot of gum and have ruined a few pencils from biting on them. LOL

Putting Them Down Once and For All

New Year’s Resolutions have never really been my cup of tea. But this year I am diving in, head first, with the promise of putting down the smoking of cigarettes that I have been participating in for way too long. The price of tobacco products has just gotten crazy and I’m tired of paying the high prices for something that is totally unhealthy for me. Wish me luck!

Too Much Education

Many parents prefer to send their children to private schools, although I am a product of public school and I think I turned out OK.

One of the guys I work with was talking about his 6 year old daughter. She is in the first grade at a private school. Evidently, her classwork includes teaching children in the first grade how to write in cursive. He was expressing his frustration in his daughter’s sloppy penmanship.

I jumped all over him about that. Children that are only 6 years old often do not have their fine motor skills developed enough to write in cursive. This school is pushing the children too fast – there is no good reason to require first graders to be writing in cursive!

Another Stupid Ad

This ad shows up on the right margin of my Facebook page all the time. What is wrong with these people? I might be interested in some ANTI-wrinkle products, but I sure don’t want to buy something that will give me wrinkles like this woman pictured in the ad! And if she had some effective ANTI-wrinkle secrets, then she sure shouldn’t look like this!

School Needs This?

My sister called to chat and I asked her how my nephew is doing in school. Their school year started back in August and he will probably be getting a report card soon. He is in the 3rd grade this year and has a birthday coming up. We are so proud of our little man!

She told me about a recent homework assignment for reading. We used to call that subject English but I guess that is no longer politically correct. The assignment asked a lot of strange questions, such as how many books do you own? What is your public library card number? What is your favorite book and why?

It seems to me that the school should not be asking these types of questions. Why is it any of their business what a child’s library card number is? That is private information, and for that matter, so is the name of my favorite book.

Commercial Disclaimers

Has anyone else noticed all the disclaimers on the commercials these days? There are lots of pharmaceutical commercials saying that the doctor was paid for appearing or that the people giving testimonials are not actors. I remember during a recent election the actors in the campaign commercials were so believable that some people voted for or against the candidates for believing the crap the actors were paid to say. My God, we are so gullible.

Protect Yourself

Tennessee ranks 11th in the nation in reported cases of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). The state has 60 cases per 1,000 people, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control.

If you can do statistics, that means 6 out of every 100 people in Tennessee have some type of STD. But beyond numbers, that means that at least 6 percent of the people who live here are continuing to have unprotected sex. Condoms are about more than just birth control. They protect you from STDS. Get your head out of the sand and protect yourself!

Brothers

What is it about brothers? They love each other yet they are always competing. Or even fighting. They seem to always have something to prove.

I don’t see this same behavior in sisters. Do you think it is the testosterone?
