Commercial Disclaimers

Has anyone else noticed all the disclaimers on the commercials these days? There are lots of pharmaceutical commercials saying that the doctor was paid for appearing or that the people giving testimonials are not actors. I remember during a recent election the actors in the campaign commercials were so believable that some people voted for or against the candidates for believing the crap the actors were paid to say. My God, we are so gullible.

Protect Yourself

Tennessee ranks 11th in the nation in reported cases of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). The state has 60 cases per 1,000 people, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control.

If you can do statistics, that means 6 out of every 100 people in Tennessee have some type of STD. But beyond numbers, that means that at least 6 percent of the people who live here are continuing to have unprotected sex. Condoms are about more than just birth control. They protect you from STDS. Get your head out of the sand and protect yourself!

What is it about brothers? They love each other yet they are always competing. Or even fighting. They seem to always have something to prove.

I don’t see this same behavior in sisters. Do you think it is the testosterone?

Extra Day for R and R

This weekend is a nice long one. I wish there were more 3 day weekends. How about we have at least one three day weekend every month of the year? Oh wait – we do. Except for August. Let’s find an excuse for a three day weekend in August. How about Elvis day?

Last Chance for the Beach

Here it is the end of summer and I’ve only been to the beach 3 times. This is a horrible summer for weather. It’s been cold and rainy the entire 3 months. I might as well be living in Seattle!

This week is a big deal for country music fans. We have the CMA Festival every year in June. It used to be called Fan Fair, but some corporate schmucks decided to add non-country acts to it and try to grab more money from the event. So they basically killed Fan Fair. But to some of us traditionalists, it is still Fan Fair in spite of the music business executives.

The regular TV season is over now. I’m so bummed out. There’s nothing but repeats on for the rest of summer. The new shows won’t come back until the end of September. Arrrgh. It’s going to be so BORING!

My Sweetheart

My brother is so cheap that he would deliberately break up with a girl he was seeing just before Valentice’s Day or just before Christmas – just so he wouldn’t have to buy her a present!

So this year I have been seeing a guy for a couple of months and out of the blue he sends me a text and says that he needs more space and doesn’t want to see me as much. It made me think of my brother’s cheap habit and I was not real receptive. The timing stinks – I was hoping for a warm and cozy Valentine’s Day and now that has evaporated.

Honey, let me tell you, if we have been dating each other exclusively for several months and all of a sudden you want to start dating other people and you tell me in a text message? You are a coward.

And you don’t want to completely break up with me – you just want to include other women in your life? No way, Jose – I’m not willing to be your booty call.

So this year I bought my own valentince gift. I picked out a nice box of Godiva chocolates and will enjoy one piece each night by myself for a month or so until they are all gone.

Boring Friday Nights

Ever since I was a kid and had to babysit on Friday nights I’ve known that the TV shows on the networks are the worst ones on Friday nights. Friday night TV sucks. Always has.

That’s why Blockbuster was invented. At least if you have to babysit or stay home or Friday night you can rent a decent movie at Blockbuster and not be bored out of your mind.
